BJP spreading virus of communal hatred, prejudice during pandemic, says Sonia Gandhi

Sonia Gandhi has accused the BJP of spreading communal prejudice and hatred while the country is grappling with the enormous crisis of a pandemic.
During the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Thursday, Sonia Gandhi blasted the ruling BJP saying the party is busy spreading the virus of communal hatred and prejudice during a crisis as grave as the coronavirus pandemic.





Over 1,400 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours take India’s tally past 21,000: 10 points

The Covid-19 death toll has reached 681 and the number of cases to 21,393 on Thursday, an increase of 41 fatalities and over 1,400 cases in the last 24 hours.
More than 1,400 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, ending Thursday morning, have taken India’s tally over the 21,000-mark. The death toll due to Covid-19 in India has climbed to 681 after India registered 41 deaths in 24 hours.

As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s updated figures on Thursday morning, there are currently over 16,400 active cases of coronavirus in India while more than 4,000 people have been either cured or discharged.

Here are 10 top developments on coronavirus in India:

1. The total number of coronavirus positive cases in India climbs to 21, 393 on Thursday morning. On Wednesday, the number of Covid-019 cases in India stood at 19,984.

2. India has seen as many as 1,400 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours and recorded 41 new Covid-19- related deaths.

3. As per the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, there are presently 16,454 active cases in India. Of these 16,454, 4,257 patients have either been cured or discharged while one has migrated. The total number of cases includes 77 foreign nationals who were tested positive in India.

4. The death toll due to Covid-19 has climbed to 681 in India. Of the total 681 deaths, Maharashtra continues to top the tally with 269. Maharashtra is followed by Gujarat at 103, Madhya Pradesh at 80, Delhi at 48, Rajasthan at 27, Andhra Pradesh at 24 and Telangana at 23.

5. In terms of number of cases, Maharashtra has tested over 5,600 people positive for novel coronavirus in India. Maharashtra has the highest number of confirmed cases in India. It is followed by Gujarat at 2,407, which has seen a spike in positive cases in the last few days
6. The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi has climbed to 2,248, with 92 new cases and one more death being reported in a day. No fatality was recorded on Tuesday in Delhi. The Delhi government said of the total number of 48 fatalities reported till date, 25 of the deceased were aged 60 years and above, making over 52 per cent of the total death cases.

7. Rajasthan has so far registered 1,890 cases, Tamil Nadu 1,629 and 1,592 in Madhya Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, the number of Covid-19 cases has gone up to 1,449, 945 in Telangana and 813 in Andhra Pradesh. The number of cases has risen to 456 in West Bengal, 438 in Kerala, 427 in Karnataka, 407 in Jammu and Kashmir, 262 in Haryana and 251 in Punjab. Bihar has reported 143 coronavirus cases, while Odisha has 83.

8. In Ladakh, as two coronavirus patients have recovered from the infection in Ladakh, the number of active cases in the union territory has fallen to two.

9. Forty-nine people have been infected with the virus in Jharkahnd while Uttarakhand has 46 cases. Himachal Pradesh has 40 cases, Chhattisgarh has 36, while Assam has registered 35 infections so far. Chandigarh has 27 Covid-19 cases while 17 cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meghalaya has reported 12 cases, while Goa and Puducherry have seven patients each.

10. A total of 5,00,542 samples from 4,85,172 individuals have been tested as of 9 am on April 23, 2020, the Indian Council of Medical Research said. As many as 21,797 samples have been confirmed positive, ICMR added.
